![]() The hot topics box on the right side of our homepage has been instrumental for our editors to find deals for the front page. After using it for a few years, we noticed that the box has dual purposes and there are generally 2 types of deal threads that show up. It has deals where users have voted favorably and it also has deals where there is a good amount of activity (views, replies) but it still needs to draw some eyeballs & votes to fully determine if it is Slickdealer approved. ![]() We originally intended hot topics to only show the very best user voted deals but a lot of times the other deals tend to take over the real estate. It's still very useful to drive traffic to the other deals so we decided to split them into two boxes one for hot topics and another for up & coming. Hopefully this makes it easier for SD'ers to sort out the good deals. Try it out and let us know what you think. |

I think this is an excellent idea, it separates the threads with posts due to controversy from the truly good deals.

I also think this is a good idea. The $7.25 AMC movie thread never hit off my deal alerts. 15 votes but it never got to 3 thumbs
Actually, of those 5, only the graphics card deal hit my deal alerts. So what I can do instead is add "up and coming topics" to my RSS feed and check that combined with my deal alerts.

Wise choice. I like it, and I know you were waiting for my approval
j/kI do like the split though.

I like the idea alot too. Very useful in sorting out deals/threads by popular by rating and one by activity.

I don't always agree with SD changes but this one I like. I figured out what was going on before I even read the blog and my reaction was positive.

I don't believe in the "social construction of knowledge" theory. If what I have to say is true, would be true even if my rep were zero. And if what I say is false, it would still be false even if my rep were 10,000. Every statement should be evaluated on its own merits, regardless of what I did or did not do in the past. |
