DEAD: TV had to be purchased by 8/16 for rebate. Panasonic 42" 720p Plasma for $550 at BestBuy.com AR
DEAL IS DEAD -- TV IS OUT OF STOCK ONLINE

    UPDATE #2 -- Deal is now super-super-slick:

Home Theater Setup is back in stock, so 42" TV is now $550 after rebate:

    Add TV here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspa...030 56233

Add Home Theater setup here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspa...873 11872

Total will be $750. Submit $200 rebate to get everything for $550. Again, do in-store pickup to save on shipping,

    _______________________________________

Credit to C1787GJ (post #576) for this new deal:

    50" TV here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspa...0703056300

    42" TV here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspa...030 56233

    Speaker Installation here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspa...1587311698

You must add the installation AND the TV to see the discount. The Panasonic rebate may also work to make the deal super-sweet, but don't count on it since it's for TV installation, and you're buying speaker installation.

Do in-store pickup to save on shipping.

You may be able to use this coupon at pickup to save 20% ($30) on the installation: http://www.wow-coupons.com/files/...A_2007.pdf

    ______________________________________________

    ORIGINAL DEAL (now dead)

TV is here -- will be $990 when added to cart: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspa...030 56233

Philips home theater system -- will be free when added to cart (free with purchase of TV): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspa...607 19230

Add Geek Squad home theater installation at $200: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspa...873 11872

The installation will take $300 off the price of the TV, so the TV price will come down to $690 when you add the installation. Do in-store pickup to save on shipping.

Now submit the attached rebate for an additional $200 off. So the math is:
TV -- $690 (will show up as $690 once you add the installation)
    Home Theater -- Free
    Installation -- $200
    Minus $200 rebate
    ----------------------------
    TOTAL = $690 + tax

The rebate should work, even though Best Buy is also offering the TV + installation discount. See this past thread where people reported getting a Panasonic installation rebate even though Best Buy was also offering a TV + installation discount: http://forums.slickdeals.net/show...p?t=790231

Also I wrote to Panasonic Rebates (panasonicrebates@acbcoop.com), and they confirmed that they do not care about the Best Buy promotion. Keep in mind Your Best Buy shopping cart shows the installation as $200 (the $300 package discount entirely comes off the TV), and that is what the rebate is for.

There are some 10% off coupons at Best Buy that you can try to use with in-store pickup, but it is extremely YMMV that the cashier will allow it to go through.

The latest as of Aug 18: BestBuy has canceled the GS install on many people's orders. They are now commanding customers to go back to a store (that's right - you pay for gas, you spend your time) and have GS install reordered. They claim that at that point they will give you the promotional pricing on the TV. They're also claiming that rebate will still be valid as the order date won't change. It is ridiculous BestBuy is playing these games with customers after they screwed this all up. There is a chance that if you go through with their directions, you will end up out $200 as the Panasonic rebate will not be valid if your receipt shows you bought the TV after 8/16 (could possibly happen if BestBuy redoes your order if you go in-store). Recommendation: Call BestBuy and tell them that if they do not credit your credit card for any erroneous charges, you will dispute the charges with your credit card company and file a BBB complaint.

Deal might still be alive, $495 + tax, by PM @ Sears to BB. (Or it can be had for around $689 A/R from BB.)
You will need to find a Sears employee that will let you use the Best Buy receipt and get 110% of the price diffference. It's been a major YMMV.
UPDATE: Here is a receipt scan from Sears that poster "Newinjuly" posted:

    FAQ

    by mrcoolguy209
Can I return the Geek Squad install after placing my order?
They will let you cancel the Geek Squad setup. HOWEVER, they will also charge your credit card $300 more for the television price since the $300 discount is contingent upon getting the install.

What do I need to submit for the rebate to be valid?
Some posters have confirmed with Panasonic's rebate center that the order receipt received via email from Best Buy that shows the TV & Geek Squad setup as being sufficient. However, others have also said that when the Geek Squad comes to do the setup, they will provide you with an install receipt. On the install receipt, be sure to have the Geek Squad write down, "installed TV on stand".

What is Best Buy doing for customers regarding the Geek Squad setup fiasco?
At least 2 posters have reported receiving emails from Best Buy regarding canceling the Geek Squad setup and not losing the group discount ($300). Here is the email:
    Hi,

Thank you for placing your order with Best Buy.

Due to system issues we have had to cancel the Geek Squad set up, we will gladly give you $50.00 off that service, Rest assured that you will still get your television at the same sale price as your original order.

I do Apologize for any confusion or inconvenience regarding this matter, please give us a call back here at 1-888 Best Buy to have your Geek Squad Set up order replaced if you wish.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. We look forward to your next visit to one of
    our stores or to www.BestBuy.com.

    Sincerely,
    Best Buy Customer Care Team

Here is the 10% Best Buy Mover's Coupon, expires 8/31
The fine print does not specifically exclude the TV, only Home theater installation

So, potentially $621+tax (AR AC B&M)

Well just try and try again then
For the second call to BB, I told the guy that I want the discount price for TV without having to rebuy the GS installation. He did tell me that there is no way he can give me the discount price for TV without GS installation but I told him it's useless for me to get GS installation since it's already a week, I opened the box and installed TV by myself. I offered to pay an extra $150 to get the discount price for TV (its the same for buying $200 GS installation with $50 discount). That was when he took my phone number and told me to wait for an hour. One hour later I got my money back!
So yeah be nice when you talk, make them transfer your case to someone who has the authority to do a credit!
Finally, after so many calls I lost count! I finally spoke to a CSR today that tried to reread me the same thing posted on my account about having to rebuy the GS setup in store. I told her that wouldn't fly as I didn't cancel the GS setup, they did because of the glitch and that I was also losing the rebate money for the GS set up, because they took to long to get back to me. She totally understood and said her managers where the highest managers available, "just below before coorperate". After about 20 minutes she came back with a resolution. She is going to send me a $200 gift card to purchase the GS set up instore. I will then call back and have them credit me $350 for purchasing the GS. So I won't have to deal with a rebate. I will now get the TV for $639.99, free HT and free GS setup. Damn this whole ordeal has drained me, thank god it's over.

    IANAL, but...

I originally bought it at $550 + $200 for the install (without home theater).

BB delivered the tv on the 19th.

BB sent me the cancellation email (cancelling the install) on the 22nd. This caused the price of the TV to go up - AFTER I bought it!

I called BB on the 22nd to dispute this and was told this would go to the credit department. Nothing happened. Called on Sat the 23rd and same - nothing happened.

Called again today - was told they can't do anything; I can buy another GS install, they'll drop the price by $350-ish down to $550, but Panasonic won't give me $200 for the GS install since the buy date on GS would be after 8/16 and it wouldn't be on the same receipt.

I've now escalated this to my credit card vendor for them to fight out with Best Buy. From my point of view BB has increased the price without my permission, changed the bill of goods from what I originally bought, and made it impossible for me to collect on one of the major incentives involved in this deal.

Oh - and I offered to let them pick it up in return for all monies spent. They refused saying there was nothing wrong with the TV. Once I heard that I realized they were screwed up, and that's when I bid the BB drone a good night and started calling the credit card company.

    We'll see what happens next...

Well, I was able to get the 42" Pana, the Xbox 360 60GB, GS Calibration for 550 off, plus I got BB to give me an additional 200 off for the rebate (which had expired). And then, they were willing to allow me to exchange the Xbox for a PS3 80 GB (I paid an additional 50). The TV, the calibration (which is something I wanted, I know not everyone thinks it is worth it but I do) and the PS3 for $900...

Sometimes, it is better to complain (if you have to) to corporate. The email addresses for all of the BB corp officers are on the web (just do a google). Be nice, and flood them with an email explaining your concern. I did, and the next day I had a call from their exec. CS guy, and he started making me offers I just could not refuse. Plus, he said I could call him anytime if I wanted a better price on any BB item that is not on sale...

They goofed, and orginally, their CS reps did a poor job handling the situation. But in the end, they got a customer that will continue to do business with them.

One more thing, BB does have Exec CS reps that do monitor Slickdeals, and all the various "deal" websites. He listed the ones he looks at. So, if you wonder why some great deal works for some people, and not for others...
