alright, i got it!

has anyone been able to boot an s10 from a usb thumb drive? i have a couple of thumb drives that are able to boot up my 1000hd no problem. on the s10 though they just hang the machine at the boot splash screen.

edit: it looks like my PQI USB drives don't work but kingston ones do? very weird. some PCs have a bunch of bios configuration for how to boot a USB disk and the s10 has none, so that might have something to do with it.

edit again: sorry, not PQI, but PNY.

The S10 does have a menu for boot order, last time I checked usb thumb drive was near the top.

boot order, yes. but say for instance my atom mini-itx system has a setting for whether to boot the USB drive in hard disk emulation mode or floppy emulation mode, and maybe one other mode. the s10 does not have this. anyway the kingston datatravelers seem to work right.

For anyone who was disapointed about the lack of internal Bluetooth, and want's to pick it up for $26, I started a thread here with details about where to buy and how to install it. Thanks to the great folks at s10lenovo.com for reverse-engineering, developing, and testing the proper components to add this ability to the S10. By the way, since the components are exactly the ones used by Lenovo (with one modificatino for the cable), the Lenovo drivers work, and the physical WiFi button controlls the Bluetooth properly. bah! they pulled a fast one. they claimed that because i called to request a credit before they missed the first ship date that my request was denied!

the thing is that on the day that i called, my web status still showed 10/29. but the rep immediately told me that my order would not ship until 11/5. so they missed the date before they missed it, if that makes any sense.

the new guy kept interrupting me but when he finally listened i told him the above. he went away for a 3rd time and then agreed to re-submit the 'consideration' as they call it. they claim they will email me in 24-48 hours. i have to guess that soon i'll be talking to the Complaint Resolution Department

edit: sweet! they approved my consession. i guess its $25 per missed ship date. i'm definitely going to get another one of these thanks to their goodwill. i'll probably wait for the next version though.

I just picked up a case logic 7-9" sleeve at Walmarts today. It fits my S10
perfectly. Cost was just under 10 bucks. Colors they had were black, blue, pink and green.

Right now I am also looking for a deal on memory for this netbook.
Any suggestions?....

by the way, for anyone interested, i have two words to say: lenovo sucks.

they never paid my consession. i waited a month and called them back at which point they gave me some hooey about a 'transaction failure', and that they would process the consession again. that was a month ago and still no activity on my credit card.

i guess they just hope people won't notice that they never give back the money?? losers.

WTF... i finally got a check in the mail for $25+tax. well, at least they made good on their promise.
