I just spent over an hour trying to catch up--y'all were a chatty bunch yesterday

Good news--my oldest has clear lungs, so his nasty cough is probably just a sinus infection. A few days of Zytrhomax and he should be good to go. My youngest now has a cough, too, but it's not as bad as older brother's. Bad news: I woke up sick this morning. Raging fever and horribly sore throat. After nursing sick kids for almost two weeks, I'm too tired to be sick, but apparently my body doesn't care
My last statement, painfully, was more $ than the required amount to obtain MVC. In addition to the great clearance deals I have been purchasing, I also buy all my baby shower, wedding shower and wedding gifts from registry lists (at other stores) at Kohls, not because of the super cheap price (sale +30% got the price equivalent to BRU) but because of the free shipping. It would save me a trip out shopping with two small children that DID NOT want to shop. If I wanted, I could have been getting the same deals for shower on Amazon, but bought at Kohls because of all the other shopping I was doing there.
So removing free shipping will affect me a lot. I will not be buying much unless it is a high ticket stupendous deal. $0.99 shipping per item kills the sale for me most of the time. so does free shipping with $75. And I WILL NOT be paying a yearly fee for free shipping...I don't have prime, I won't do something similar for Kohls either.
*snip*.
WOOHOO!! I was beginning to think I was the only one unwilling to pay for a 'subscription shipping service'. Not happening in my house, either.
Don't get me wrong, I admire them as a company as well. Look at the numbers posted on face book right now. However, it's the consumers that put them there. And they made their profits WHILE free shipping was available. It worked, why deny us now?
*applause*
Lovely, start looking for high cost, easily returnable items. That way the coming 30% will be usable for us, I guess, huh?
Personally, I'm going for small, breakable items. small because our CS department is in the back of the store, and I don't want to have to haul gigantic items. Breakable because we all know kohls shipping department--if my purpose is to cost them money, ordering breakable items is the way to do it. I have ordered at least a dozen breakable items in the past few months. ONE arrived unharmed.
I should clarify - the bundling should be on Kohl's end, then to ship the next day. should not be too hard for them to do.
And on a different point, Kohl's official (yes, I saw you checking out the thread this morning), as you sound annoyed at times with our sounding off, this is all FREE FEEDBACK you are getting. You don't have to pay a marketing agency for a study of customer desires, you have it in the raw and all free.
I agree!! Hubby even pointed out that kohls could give us the option of combining our orders during checkout--a simple 'would you like to have this order shipped with the order you placed this morning?', with the option of paying more for shipping if you DON'T want it combined, or you can pay for shipping if you want the item to ship right away, but you get free shipping if you allow them to hold it 24 hours for processing, allowing them time to bundle it with any other orders . . .
OOO...I hope I get a chip clip that says MVC. I can always use more chip clips!
Homey idea of the day--instead of chip clips, I keep a pack of those spring clothespins and a pack of magic markers in my kitchen drawer. I use the pins for chip clips, and if the munchkin is bored while I'm trying to cook, I hand him a couple of clothespins and the markers to decorate. I buy the clothespins 50 in a pack at the dollar tree, so even including the markers, I only have a couple of dollars in 50 chip clips, plus an activity for the kids so that I can get dinner ready. Plus, my chip clips have one of a kind preschooler or toddler art on them

I know my purchases from Kohls.com will be significantly less (if any at all). Eventually, they will see a change in their online revenues, and have to make a decision. But - remember how we always had really good items at 90+ off? If no one is buying online at the 60 & 70% discount, will they continue to reduce? Maybe there will be some really good items in about a month. That will give everyone a chance to cool off their Kohl's card, or even use the non-cardholder discount and a bank card that offers additional perks! Along with urlhasbeenblocked, or bing - that might be a better deal!
Just out of curiosity - How many orders have you placed on Kohls.com since they removed free shipping ? How much of your money have they lost?
I have not placed any orders, and I have been averaging 400-500/month!
Hubby also pointed out that a 'silver lining' for this would be that there might be more items available at 90%. Of course, with people losing interest in the thread/shopping at kohls, they'll be harder to find . . . . I've placed 0 orders so far, at a kohls loss of maybe $100 in sales. However, they're going to lose MORE money if I actually start ordering again, since I'll happily add $100 worth of breakable items to my order to get my $3 shirt shipped for free . . . .
Can we buy gift cards with Kohls Cash?
Not directly, but if you buy something with kohls cash then return it, the kohls cash amount will be refunded on a merchandise return (gift) card.
Order 18 of these with the 30% code to get free shipping
Kohls should fix their shipping department first. I ordered 3 infant costumes during last 30%. They all showed up today. Guess what..? The first one has pink panda ears when Kohls website shows BLUE. Second costume is missing Monkey Hat. Third costume is for 18-24 months when I ordered 12-18 months. Now everything is going back. I will prefer Walmart's site to store free shipping rather than paying for Kohl's shipping.
Before returning, contact CS. In the past when I've had items arrive incorrectly (missing pieces, wrong colors, etc), I've emailed CS and they have credited my account for the cost of the item within 24 hours, and I was allowed to keep the item.
Don't flame me, please.
Did anyone ever consider that all of our $5 or under orders with free shipping might be losing money for Kohl's? I know I've always wondered, "How can they be making money off this?"
Well, if I order it online, they have to pay to ship it to me. They have to pay someone in the warehouse to pack it (and they must pay well, considering what a GREAT job they do packing), and they have to pay the actual shipping company (I don't know about kohls, buy my SIL is manager of a office supply store, and she says it costs her store around $1-$1.50 to ship a package to a customer) But that's it. If I buy the item in store, they have to pay to ship it to the store, pay someone to hang it up, pay someone to keep the store clean, pay security, pay the cashier, pay someone to keep the bathrooms that I will inevitably use clean . . in other words, even with them paying the shipping costs, I'm sure it costs kohls less for me to shop online than in store.
good thinking. both DD and DS woke up with fevers yesterday. DS seems to be holding his own but DD is spiking 103+ and throwing up. I even took them in and got them tamiflu since we're going on vacation on friday but DD threw it all up. I'm washing my hands like crazy and using hand sanitizer after anything I touch. of course DH is away at his uncle's funeral so I'm all alone in this hospital ward. my poor DD she finally fell asleep.
I feel for you. I've been nursing sick kids for almost two weeks now, and it is NOT fun
when DS gets sick, I make the doctors write me a prescription for the anti-nausea suppositories... Phenergan... so he can keep his medicine down
shoot, I even have a prescription for it
Don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing at all, and I take phenergan myself for migraine nausea, but be careful with this medication. It's a central nervous system depressant, and the consequences for overdose are dire. A neighbor overdosed her son with it (she gave him the prescribed amount, but it was too much for his weight) and he was in the hospital for a week, and it took three days for the paralysis to pass. It was one of the most frightening things I have ever seen, and the saddest--hearing a four year old ask why he can't move right is heartbreaking. The few times my oldest has needed an anti-nausea medication, I've given him dramamine. Of course, if they can't hold it down, you have to try something else, but dramamine is a slightly safer medication, IF it works for you. Again, I am not criticizing, and I would certainly use phenergan for my sons if the doctor and I both felt they needed it, just wanted to give a heads-up about how dangerous this medication can be.
Are you considering overhead costs at all?
I totally agree. What a journey you have had on this thread, PMN!
See above--i still think the overhead for in store purchases is MUCH higher than that for online purchases.
Our schools notified us that it is in our community but they won't be telling us if a school child gets it because it's not required now. I'm not very happy about that! At least they do have sanitizer in every room and require the children to use it frequently. I hope your family gets better soon.
The school where hubby teaches, which has around 1000 students, had over 200 absent yesterday. They also have thermometers in each room, and if a child is complaining they don't feel well, they get their temp taken. If they have a fever at all, they are sent to the school nurse for isolation. If it's over 100, they are isolated until they can be picked up, and are told not to return until they've been fever free for 24 hours. It's going to be a LONG flu season!
Hi Kohlies!
I am so excited to tell you all that my husband is returning home from Iraq tomorrow! Our daughter wasn't even walking when he left and now she's running and climbing like crazy all over everything! He is not going to believe how much she's changed! I probably won't get a wink of sleep tonight, so you may see me pop back on here. Seconds pass in hours while waiting for homecoming!
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for all the great deals and conversation over this past spring and summer. Online shopping, bargain hunting and chatting really made the time pass by faster for me (and gave me something to spend my husband's hazardous duty pay on! LOL!). So, I just wanted to give a big thanks to all of you! This a great thread! I hope it will continue with or without FS!
I am so excited for you all!! As others have said, thank you, your husband, and your entire family for your service. We, as a country, are grateful, even if we don't always show it.
Hi all,
(guiltily written) I had to make a tiny purchase. But wait, wait, wait - let the returns game begin. To get free shipping I ordered 2 high priced items. So now kohls has to: - Grab the two tops I ordered for free ship
- Hastily toss them into a huge box with 100 air pillows
- Move them to the truck via in house bob cat
- Put them onto the delivery truck
- Delivery truck (using precious gasoline/diesel) moves them thru 5 states
- Drops them off at the delivery site
- Delivery truck (using precious gasoling/diesel) delivers to me
- I return them to Kohls.
- Customer service does the transaction. (they're getting PAID for it)
- Customer service puts the items back on the floor. (they're getting PAID for)
This doesn't take into account the man hours to get the 2 tops to my door.
Not good at math, but anyone would know that this process costs a lot more than it would to ship my item. And what if someone were to do this several times per day??
A LOT of unnecessary and wasteful amount of time and money.
Way to go, Kohls!!! Brilliant!
As I posted earlier, I intend to use breakable items for filler for any orders I NEED to place. Either it will cost kohls a LOT of money in broken items or they will improve their packing. Honestly, I'm hoping for the latter--I'm sick of thinking I need to place several orders for breakable items in the hopes that one will arrive undamaged.
placed my order...two pair of skechers for my DD...will definitely be taking one back....looks like I will ALWAYS need to order some extra "stuff" to get free shipping...I pay my Kohls bill at my local BM with GC's purchased thru my childrens school, so can always do the returns then...
You can pay your kohls bill with GC??? Please explain!!
