I would consider this if I hadn't just bought a 52 inch Sony KDL-52W5150 for $1,299 a week ago. I was tempted by the 52 inch Sony KDL-52V5100 which was selling for $1,250 for a few days about three weeks ago. But I decided to hold off waiting for the W series which has the Bravia 3 engine in it. Sony's make nice LCD's, but I guess they are making room for their version of LED backlit TV's.

XBR9's are the 2009 top end model from Sony. It's one of the best CCFL backlit LCD's out there (notwithstanding Samsung B750). Comparing the V5100 to XBR9... here are some key differences: 1) 120 Hz vs. 240 Hz (some people can notice difference), 2) Bravia 2 Engine vs. Bravia 3 Engine (XBR has more state of the art rendering technology, so it will look better, ever so slightly), and 3) 50,000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio vs. 100,000 to 1 dynamic contrast ratio (another minor difference). I also think the XBR9 looks marginally better than V series, but that's a matter of taste. Overall, I would say if they're similar price, go for the XBR9 even though the 52 XB9 is slightly smaller. At this price with the Blu ray player thrown in, I think you should just go for the 55 inch V5100 unless you are a real videophile.

very well said. the bottom line is that this tv has all the bells and whistles you need at a very sharp price along with the blu ray player. this tv was also rated "Very Good" by Cnet editor which is a super videophile.
