This book is good, all in the series are full of good info actually. I own them all, including the entire abs diet book series and subscribe to mens health.
IMO the first few chapters that have all the info on general nutrition, ingredients, etc is more valuable than the "eat this not that" comparisons. My gripe with the comparisons is they don't tell you WHY to eat this over that. In some cases, it's obvious (1000 calories vs 500 calories.) In other cases, it's not so obvious and there is really minimal explanation on the comparisons. Again, it's still useful if you are just looking for a best choices guide. My other gripe, which is actually with a different book from this line (Eat this not that, supermarket survival guide) is that accross all rodale publishing (rodale publishes these books, abs diet, mens health, etc.) they drill it into your head that high-fructose corn syrup is evil, and avoid it at all costs. This is actually advice I agree with. But in there supermarket survival book half the breads they recommend have HFCS over the "NOT's" that don't! Again, not trying to deter people from buying this book. Overall, I enjoy the book, it's a great reference, but make sure to do your own research on diet and nutrition as well. Use this as a supplement to your diet, not a guide. |

Wow, surprised so many people love this book- I thought is was ok at best. Nice to see some real product comparisons by brand name, but the effort taken to actually produce the book... well, it could have definitely used more text and information. At this price it's a decent deal, tho I would reccommend hitting the library if it were any higher in cost.

I liked it too, has a lot of good info. Like some of said, it doesnt always give a good explanation of why some things are not so good, but also, it can be shocking though some foods which sound healthy at the restaurant, are not healthy at all.

There are some very good things in these series, and it opens your mind to actually comparing and thinking about what are in the products. I was left with a bad taste (
) in my mouth over the series when I noted that they were saying to eat regular bacon over turkey bacon in one book - and completely getting the facts wrong..(they got the portion sizes wrong, so in fact the evidence supports the opposite of their conclusion...DO eat turkey bacon, not regular ).But I'm sure the rest is better
