Star Trek, the rip-roaring action/adventure blockbuster released in theaters on May 8th, 2009, is the eleventh movie in the hit franchise from Paramount. It features the original Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy, and a new younger cast of actors, most notably Zachary Quinto (Sylar from "Heroes") playing the iconic roles made famous from the 1960's television show. This in-continuity, prequel, reboot flick features a re-imagining of the Star Trek universe, reinvigorated what many considered to be a stale franchise and was a complete smash at the box office, making over $257 million dollars domestically and over $384 million worldwide since its theatrical release. This movie, the fifth highest grossing movie domestically this year, has a sequel already in development and is dropping on DVD and Blu-Ray this coming Tuesday, Nov. 17th. Here are the details:

Best Prices:
I did a price comparison on both the internet and this weeks circulars with Amazon.com, Best Buy, Bestbuy.com, Barnesandnoble.com, Borders.com, Buy.com, Costco.com, DeepDiscountDVD.com, Frys.com, FYE, FYE.com, Overstock.com, Sears.com, Target, Target.com, Toys R Us, Wal-mart and Wal-mart.com. Unless otherwise noted or known by me, the prices are the same in store and online at their respective websites. As a result of the price war competition between Amazon.com, Wal-mart and Target, they are offering enticements such as lower prices and free shipping for this movie on their websites. I noted shipping in the price rankings because of the competition between stores, but I will only be comparing base prices of the movie, unless shipping costs cannot be avoided, like on Overstock.com, where its $1 for EVERY order. Otherwise, I will not factor shipping costs into the price rankings as a result.
It should be noted that at Best Buy, they are having a doorbuster sale on this DVD in the store only, not online. Go to http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Movie...0003&h=387 to see if a Best Buy near you is having a midnight opening. If it has a midnight opening, then the doorbuster pricing will be applicable for both the midnight opening and the first two regular business hours on Nov. 17th. If a store doesn't have a midnight opening, then doorbuster pricing will apply for the first two hours of business only.
Please note that with these price rankings, these prices are as current as I am aware of. Wal-mart's in-store prices don't always match its website prices, for example. As a result, these prices are as accurate as I can verify from the internet and flyers from the newspaper, I don't put prices in the rankings that I cannot verify. For example, Toys R Us might have the Two Disc Special Edition but it is nowhere on their website nor in this weeks flyer, so therefore I don't include it in the Two Disc Special Edition price rankings. I also know from experience that FYE's B&M store prices are the same as those on their website, so I do include the stores prices in the FYE listing. In other words, these stores reserve the right to change their prices and I might not know about it.
