Free PocketCPR App for Iphone & Ipod Touch - down from $5.99 - Uses accelerometer to guide you!
This is my first post so I apologize if I did anything wrong. I searched and didn’t find it posted.

Search "PocketCPR" in the Appstore to find it.

I was checking on what apps were on sale today and found this one. It’s called PocketCPR and works for the current Iphone. It’s a CPR training tool that has voice instructions and full illustrations to help walk you through the process. What sets this trainer apart though is that it uses the iphones accelerometer to tell make sure your chest compressions are at the right rhythm and to make sure your using the right amount of pressure. The apps reviews said people used it while practicing on a couch cushion or firm pillow. I tried it out and it seems to work well. If you’re going to fast or not pressing hard enough it will tell you what to do to correct your motion.

This is a great training tool if you want to learn CPR plus it’s free. Everyone should know CPR because you never know if you might need to use it someday. Even if you know CPR it’s a good refresher tool.

The app description says it works for the Ipod Touch as well but you need the phone to use the “call for help” feature.

The app listing doesn’t say how long it will be on sale so get it while its free.

    This is a great app.

Here is a direct link to iTunes (on iPhone might have to copy paste link): http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/po...334738473?

Can't a victim potentially sue even a certified first responder person if that person happens to break their rib or something in the process of saving their life. Now untrained people can fire up our ipods and go to work. This wont turn out well

I'm trained and certified so it's all good. Not to mention if I was in bad enough condition that I would need someone to perform CPR until the paramedics arrive I would rather have them use this app than nothing at all. Doesn't the 911 operator normally walk you through this anyway if you are the only one around? I'm not a lawyer or anything, but I think you would be protected under good Samaritan laws.

I think you have to be pretty stupid to press so hard you break something. Although some people never fail to surprise.

There are usually good samaritan laws that will protect you. Yes, you can always sue. It's a matter of whether or not the "victim" wins. In general, as long as you were not trying to purposely cause harm, and you weren't overwhelmingly negligent in your actions, you will be fine. A broken rib is better than dead. And a broken rib is almost inevitable when properly performing CPR. I've broken an unknown number of ribs over the last 10 years, and I'm sure the families are greatful that I did.

People do "CPR" all the time from what they've seen on tv. In general, as long as you are doing compressions in the right general area (not breaking off the xiphod process), are doing competent compressions to circulate oxygenated air, and keeping fresh oxygen in the patient, you will do more good than harm.

And yes, 911 operators are supposed to walk you through the CPR instructions if you wish. However, sometimes they work alone and need to take other calls. It sucks, but it's a fact of life.

*Spoken by an EMT, 911 dispatcher, and certified CPR instructor.

Ribs break all the time. Have you ever actually done CPR? I watched a surgeon crunch through like he was eating a piece of ice. Broken ribs are better than death.

The potential problem with this is that you have a varying depth depending not only on age, but sheer size of an individual. If someone is very overweight you need to go deeper in order to push through the fat to compress the chest cavity.

Another poster was right about good Samaritan laws protecting an individual doing CPR that's trained in CPR.

As an EMT for over a decade I've done CPR plenty of times. It's not uncommon to break a rib or two when doing it correctly.

If you want to learn CPR, take a course. Check with your local hospital or first aid squad. You might pay $15 more for a full course.

Doctor's are the worst when it comes to performing CPR. Generally speaking, the ones best at CPR are those that perform it the most. Those people would be one's at the lowest level. At the scene of an arrest they tend to be the firefighters and EMTs, whereas the paramedics are the one's intubating the patient, starting the IV and pushing drugs. In the hospital those performing CPR tend to be the technicians, aides, and sometimes nurses. Those that rarely perform CPR (paremedics, doctors) tend to be the worst at it.

CPR is easy to perform. When you call 911 in an advanced location of the country, the call taker or a dispatcher will walk you through basic CPR. This is meant for the untrained and the trained who might have forgotten what they need to do.

An app on a portable phone to guide you through CPR? I'm skeptical this would work. Does the app remind you of all the right steps, including removing the patient from bed, checking for obvious signs of death before starting, etc?

My concern is someone may think this is enough. It;s not. Everyone, and I mean everyone, should take CPR on a regular basis.

My 4-year-old son likes playing various games on my iphone. Is there iphone application that I can use to set a time limit? Say, set a 10 minutes limit, after 10 minutes playing, the phone will be locked

Probably a stupid question, but I was wondering if one could download an app now, then "install" it on an ipod touch at a later date (when I purchase one)?

Many states have Good Samaritan Laws... So as long as you in good faith are doing something to save a person within your scope of knowledge you can't be sued.. That includes things like CPR and pulling someone from a burning vehicle. You can't of course do brain surgery if you aren't qualified..but many things count and one could argue that following iphone instructions would qualify someone..

Oh and an accelerometer will not effectively measure pressure so it may say harder and harder and could cause a rib fracture (which happens sometimes anyways).

Yeah just buy it in iTunes on your Mac or PC and then when you get your iPhone or Touch just sync it with iTunes and it will install it.

Or you can buy in iTunes now and then when you get your Touch or iPhone just go on the App Store app and go to the app and hit Buy Now login into the account you used to purchase the app for free and it will let you download it again for free even if the price at the time says otherwise. That way you don't have to sync.
