Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar $205 or less shipped from Amazon
Amazon just dropped the price of the Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar to $205.49 delivered. Note that there are 2 Amazon marketplace vendors with even lower prices - by a few dollars.

Edit: Amazon has raised the price to $239

    Linky-Poo

the lowest price I have ever seen on this item NEW is $200, so the current $205.49 or $200.46 or $199.77 for a NEW HT-CT100 soundbar is a nice deal.

In the past, Sony has sold refurbs for as low as $130-150, but many reported getting beat up / scratched up items.

I just got my first TV, a Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100. Is it worth getting this set-up or does it not make sense because the TV already has speakers? I don't ever want to do surround sound because of the wires.

Also could these speakers ever be used on a desktop computer?

Everyone wants a skinny and flat TV with a thin bezel so there is no place to put a decent speaker system. Thus the popularity of sound bars . This one also can serve as an HDMI switcher - in case you have more devices to connect than your TV supports.

I've been looking at this setup for the bedroom for a few days - good price drop! Yesterday it was $235. CNet rated it as the best soundbar under $300.

Great price. I got one this summer for about $230 after a month or so of waiting/price comparing. LOVE mine, btw. Great sound...also serves as an HDMI switcher for three devices. It rarely gives even so much as a faux "surround" sound, but the subwoofer definitely "booms" in all the right places and the bar gives a much richer sound experience than TV speakers alone.

Good Deal, the last one for this product that made the front page was for $150 shipped, but charged tax from the sony store, plus it was a refurb. This is new and no tax for most people. Its worth paying the $40 dollar difference (after factoring the sony tax) to get it brand new, especially after some people reported that sony shipped them some tore up refurbs.

I agree. I bought this a few weeks back from Amazon, for about $225 shipped and I've been happy since. The sound is nice. Not surround sound like you would get from speakers placed all around the room, but it gives the deep sounds nice base, which my 42" Westy simply did not have. I think its well worth the money. You can plug in three devices and switch between each one on a dime, and they all that that surround thing going. The only down side is that its an extra remote for now, and sometimes when I switch between 1080i to 720p, I get a snowy picture or no sound, but that could very well be a glitch with the Westy that alwasy had a lag switching between different HD formats. Hope this helps.

Audio Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Sub-Woofer(New): $205.49 shipped from Amazon

    http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HTCT100-Sound-Bar-Sub-Woofer/dp/B0015HS1HQ/ref=sr_1_1?tag=slickdeals&ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qi d=1253463126&sr=8-1 [amazon.com]

With free shipping this is the lowest I've seen for a new one. Good for those (like me) who keep missing the refurbished deals.

Google shows the next lowest [google.com] is $239.99 from B&H (also free shipping)

I agree this is worth the money. I added it to my 50" Sammy I got a few months ago and have been very pleased with the sound quality. The single sound-bar speaker also looks good IMHO.

I got the referb from Sony for $140 shipped and it was in perfect condition, just like brand new. Its a great little sound bar and the plus is if you have a Sony TV, it controls it. When you turn on/off the TV it turns on/off and the volume on the TV remote changes the Soundbar volume. Very cool and very handy not having to have a second remote. The sound from it is also great.

OP. Can you please explain that a little bit better? How will this serve as a HDMI switcher ? Is there something else I need to get like a HDMI switch to attach this to several different input devices ?
    TIA
