The only thing that beats proper deal hunting, coupon clipping and price monitoring is doing all that, compounded with impeccable timing! April is an eventful month and here are a few noteworthy events you should consider before purchasing items on your wishlist.

Spring Break A number of schools and universities had spring break in late March and there will be a few others doing theirs in early April. This means that after the spring break weeks, travel will be cheap again until summer starts. If you’re hoping to use those vacation days without breaking the bank, April will be a good time to do it. JetBlue and Virgin America both carried 20% off coupons earlier in the year for this time period, so wait and see if they do it again.

Easter The yellow, green and purple everything has slowly inundated stores around the country, but in a few days, there will be red ‘SALE’ signs all over those items. If it’s not urgent (and we do understand if it is), hold off on buying candy, chocolates and gift baskets just a few more days.

Tax Day This is a tricky act to balance, especially since your refund or the amount you owe is a big indicator of whether or not this will be a good or bad month. For those who have received a special gift from Uncle Sam, April is traditionally a good month to buy items that were huge in the end-of-year sales, but are still in stock. That includes last year’s models of appliances and cars. TV’s and vacuum cleaners in particular are coming out with this year’s models during the spring, so you should expect an even better discount on those items.

Earth Day There is some speculation that Earth Day may call for a sale in organic items, but we haven’t seen that as much in the past few years. Purchasing Earth-friendly items should be done everyday anyway, but if you’d like to save your own personal greens, hold off until after April 22nd.

Warm Days in General The beginning of spring is simply the end of winter, which means that winter gear and sports equipment are at the tail end of their shelf life. If you tried snowboarding once or twice this past season, now is the perfect time to look for equipment that will end up saving you those rental fees next season. If you know high school seniors who are preparing to brave the Northeast winters, send them an early present in the form of warm winter coats, boots and layers.
