Depends completely on your usage. A plan with 1500MB of data and 30 minutes/texts would be perfect for me. That T-mobile plan would be terrible for my usage.

I plan on using the T-mobile $30 a month 1500 minutes/txt plan. It only has 30mb data. I figure I am around wifi all over the place. Has anyone else been doing this and is it practical?

You can't. Read the VM page. Any phone upgrade will bump you out of the grandfathered plan.
