Unless your idea of a vacation is adventure, I would not really recommend the Big Island for a first time Hawaii vacation. Now mind you I have not been to the Hilo side of the island but the beaches...

your going to want to book a day or two to go to pearl harbor or the Polynesian cultural center.
its very easy and cheaper to rent a car on each island and see everything without taking the pricy...

Having been on NCL's Hawaiian Cruise, I have to disagree with many. Their itinerary is different than most cruises. They are ALWAYS at port. They stay overnight on two islands and stay a full day...

Just want to echo the folks who are suggesting you stay away from the cruise. Do a cruise if you're afraid of culture (cause that's what the cruise will shield you from...). Also, avoid Honolulu if...

When I took my wife on it, I think all told after counting our beach time at Hamoa it was almost 9 hours. Passed OGG at 745am, got back to Paia for dinner around 445pm.

I second the notion of the poster who recommends not going to Hawaii on a cruise. You will see the islands MUCH better on land than from the boat. Also, you won't experience the warm Hawaiian...

FYI, places I've stayed in Kihei that are directly on the beach/oceanfront. No crossing the road and I'd recommend any one of them. Note however, most do NOT have AC, but the ocean breezes make up...

I love LV!! Went last year to the Vdarra hotel for $79 per night (right next to the Belagio hotel) it was only a 10 min walk. It was great! I would highly recommend LV even to those who don't gamble....
