Anyone else receive and test your drives? Where did you order from and what was the result of testing the drive?

For those who are wondering why not to use these raid, search around there are lots of reports where they don't work well in that setting because of some of the power saving features these drives...

5900 RPM = less heat, quieter, more energy efficient, but obviously slower. Usually, people have been getting the 'green' drives for their HTPCs. If you're not going to have 10 people streaming...

Is this 3 year warranty? I want to buy from Amazon. I don't trust their technical details sections because it says 5400 RPM instead of 5900 RPM. Product Features A unique 5900-RPM speed...

I'm a fan of using the low rpm drives for media storage, and a small SSD for the boot drive. Neither one puts off much heat, and the fast SSD makes your machine really responsive.

seriously why exactly? "green" drives are just slower, cheaper drives usually. The original idea behind RAID was to use lower performance inexpensive disks. ...

I gave in and bought one off of Amazon. Good deal for post-flood.

According to Amazon's page on the Hitachi (HGST) drive: Performance: Up to 3Gbit/sec for models up to 2TB; Up to 6Gbit/sec for 3TB Interesting info on the speeds. I'll have to look into that -...

It's still good to have a Mobo with Sata III just for the future. Also SSDs do take advantage of Sata III - which I would highly recommend, it was honestly the best upgrade I ever made - just a 128gb...

I'm thinking about putting 4 of these in a RAID for a NAS. Has anybody had any experience doing this with these drives?

Alright, I'm in. You win price gouging hard drive manufactures. Had already settled on this 5900rpm drive in my mind for my NAS after seeing some benchmarks a while back and was just waiting...

Actually, they are not in my experience. The "green" hitachi drives play very very well in RAID setups, better than all the other manufacturers (especially WD). My RAID setup with 90% hitachi drives...

Unfortunately I didn't. I just wanted clarification, I wasn't expecting them to come back with a lower number and update the page. I'm willing to bet Amazon's is the same and their page is wrong as...

easier said than done. you don't have that information when you are purchasing these hard drives. you can't call up Newegg and ask "which production lot are these from?" besides, if you need 3 hard...

Just out of curiosity, where did you order from, Newegg or Amazon?

Newegg. Started an advanced (cross ship) rma today. True. Just ribbin. Kicking myself for not screen shotting it which I normally do. Its a bare drive and not retail packaging so its...

I'm about ready to throw in the towel but feel that if I do there will be an awesome deal next week. I checked BB, there aren't any good deals there that I can see. Certainly nothing for 99.99 or...

I wish Amazon would match this.
Thanks, this just reminded me that I still have 1 sitting in my closet. Hard to believe that 10 months ago you could get these drives for $60-70! ...

Hitachi drives? they're horrible. i made the mistake of using 3 of them in my WHS. i bought them in August 2011, by December 2011 2 out of 3 failed. plus they make you pay for return shipping which...

I think that some of the non-HW based RAID type solutions say the green drives are okay. Note that I'm not 100% sure on this, but it's worth checking out... Popular options I've seen are Flexraid...

That drive is not SATA 6 though from the description on Amazon's page. I believe it is 3. EDIT: I see you confirmed that already with Amazon. Oops.

Fairly certain is - I think their description is just incorrect. The only reason they lowered their price on the Hitachi HDD was to match Newegg's promo. And if you look the product numbers are the...

I'll chime in - I put in an SSD into my 4yo Thinkpad (SATA I, boy!), and it is not noticeably faster than a 7200 RPM drive, but still much faster than a 5400 RPM drive that came with the laptop. It...
