I think that is an absurd assertion. The wire was good but if you watched rome and saw less thematic depth, I think that would be your problem and not that of the series. Rome has levels of irony...

the main reason why the show was cancelled is because of budget. It cost HBO 1 million per episode to produce. Great production and acting, definitely in my top 5.

This show is good but far from the best series. The Wire is still much better than this. I find this more entertaining than Breaking Bad or Mad Men. I also prefer this over Sopranos.
