I disagree. Subs play a lot more into the overall sound that most people want to give credit for, and good subs are expensive. Using a $600 sub with $300 LCR isn't uncommon and actually makes...

Your receiver has the hookup. Look at the back, center bottom, you will see a jack that says pre-out subwoofer (or something similar).
All you need to connect them is a cable like this: RCA audio...

Absolutely.
A "refurbished" unit is most likely a return or a slight cosmetic defect....just like a lot of the "new" ones have.
