This is at best equal to the stock fan. You should look for a better cooler for the 2600k if you plan to overclock. If you don't overclock then the stock fan is perfectly fine.

arctic silver 5 is the "standard" for thermal paste unless you have an oem cpu and want a cheap fan... these look pretty crappy. don't expect much improvement over oem fans if you want decent...

I find it's easiest to do the CPU and heatsink install before mounting the motherboard. Or, just get a $10-15 cooler on sale that has a backplate and enjoy something quieter, cooler and better.
