Get the official drive diags from the manufacturer & run a test - be sure to check warranty status & they may swap it out for you

when i came back from work i see the "Media test failure, check cable" error.
I switched the SATA cable and it still shows the same error upon rebooting.
Guess my hard drive is dead.

Could also be updating the disk index - agree to let it run overnight & see if it stops.
If it doesn't, unplug it from the internet & start scanning for malware.
