Wait for one of the Friedrich models off Amazon Warehouse Deals. Three work well and are very quiet which is a huge plus. They may arrive a bit banged up but they still work :)

i bought a frigidaire portable ac which only felt cool if you were 5-6 feet away from it. i tossed it & bought a window mount. big difference! a CR evaluation of portables basically said don't...

can probably find a window mount style on craigslist. smaller new ones dont run more than 100$...so i cant imagine used ones going for more than 50-75$
