If staples would just go open source and work on a port of openhab they might actually sell a measurable volume of the hub

Staples is likely to pull the plug on their Connect soon, so I'd avoid that route.
Not sure why they say they'll continue to support and provide updates to the app when there has been 0 support...

Most home automation controllers / hubs are $100+. Cheaper than that and you're looking at a zwave dongle and free (and frustrating) software on a pc.

Yes, you are right about the hub and you have many different options. Most common hubs are Vera, Smartthings and Wink for a zwave automation. I personally have VeraLite for the last 4 years and many...
