Everyone bashes the $400 off rebate for buying a computer and having to sign up for MSN for 3 years, but check out the fine print! CA and OR residents can cancel at anytime without being charged a termination fee. The deal was even printed on the San Jose Mercury News! Run to your nearest Best Buy! They give an instant $400 rebate at the register while other stores have mail-in rebates!! You can try buying $400 gift certificates since most of the $400 items have been sold out at several stores. Also, make sure you stay away from the Milpitas store as they are pretty much emptied today! Here's a link to all the store locations in California. They don't have any stores in Oregon, but office depot does offer the same promotion so you might want to check them out. If you find that you are not satisfied with the MSN service. You can call 1-800-386-5550 for MSN customer support.
Update: This has got to be the best deal of the year! I lugged home a Sony 27" TV today and only spent 30 minutes in the store. The Marin City Best Buy had about 5 people signing up for MSN and the store shelves are still fully stocked! I don't want to discuss the ethics or morality, but it is quite legit. Microsoft even said they will honor it according to a new SJ Mercury article. The LA Times also published an article on the Microsoft goof. Both say that the MSN promotion is temporarily suspended.
