(A) There are conflicting reports on this. Some individuals are indicating that a "new unspoken" policy is in effect that the 15% restocking fee will be waived unless the unit is damaged. The formal policy from BB is below. So, as always YMMV

Redpoppa states: For some reason it appeared already on the laptop but i couldn't find it. I had to uninstall and reinstall then it worked.

The Intel application should be on the desktop of the laptop. If it doesnt, check the Gadget Gallery and drag it to the desktop


(Q) How is the heat factor for the laptop?
(A) The common consensus is that the laptop is extremely cool to the touch and throws off very little heat.


(Q) Does this have built-in Bluetooth?
(A) While the unit does appear to have a switch for this option, it does not have the actual hardware pre-installed for bluetooth. This is easily remedied by purchasing a bluetooth micro adapter for the cost of anywhere of $2 - $30+. Here is a link for one I happened to find on Amazon. I am not promoting this one. (A) This laptop has an OS of Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (64 bit)
The maximum RAM that it can address is 16 GB. However, it should recognize what most people want to do which is 8GB.

(A) Unless you happen to find a BB employee that is just completely off their rocker, the answer is 98% of the time NO (The coupons details do not show laptops as being a qualified purchase). If anyone is able to use the 10% off coupon, then my "guess" is that they happen to know a BB employee and the employee did an override or something (IMHO.)


(Q) Is there an issue with sound over HDMI?
(A) Some users have complained about this. Here is one suggestion (jitujalsa.)
With the HDMI cable plugged in the laptop and the TV.....
Go to Control Panel--> Hardware & Sound --> Sound --> Right Click on Digital Audio (HDMI) ---> Set as Default--> (might have to restart)

(Q) Does this have a backlight for the keboard/keys?
(A) No, this model does not have this option.


(Q) What can I use to remove the "bloatware" from this?
(A) Users have recommended PCDecrapifier. Startup times after running the bloatware remover have changed down to 37 seconds to 1 minute 10 seconds.

Update on SquareTrade Warranty: Regarding SquareTrade Warranty, I just talked to Shane at SquareTrade. He said that the warranty would cover the notebook as detailed in the specifications. This means, in our receipts, they should say an i3 CPU and if anything happens to the CPU, SquareTrade will only replace the dead CPU with an i3 CPU. However, he said that the only way to have the i5 CPU covered by the warranty is to have Best Buy update the details in the receipt or provide a proof in Best Buy documentation (i.e. Best Buy letterhead). Hope this did not violate the no-call rule as sooner or later those having to make a warranty claim with SquareTrade will probably find this out. So't it's better to know beforehand. You have 60 days to cancel your policy.

Update:: Important Information: After contacting Gateway level 2 tech support to ask if the i5 430m placement was a mistake and if the system had been shipped to Gateway under manufactures warranty - Gateway admitted that it was in fact a mistake and that the CPU most likely would or could be replaced while in Gateway's repair center. Which would ultimately end up with the customer receiving a Core i3 330 cpu. - Moral - send this laptop to Gateway at your own risk - may want to consider the SquareTrade Warranty option.

From Svnla: If anyone wants to go back to the FACTORY DEFAULT settings (as if your laptop was jut openned) but forgot or did not create restore discs then do this:

1. Restart the laptop
2. Hold BOTH Alt and F10 keys at the same time WHILE the laptop reboot and it should be in the restore screen

Then just follow the instructions. Make sure you don't have anything important on the laptop because everything will be wipeout/back to the very original state/factory settings.

Follow these steps to get the HDMI signal from your laptop (doesn't matter what Intel based laptop it is) to the HDTV of your choice:

Go to your Task Bar located at the bottom of the screen

In the Quick Launch Bar (located all the way to the right of the bar at the bottom of the screen) click the arrow that is pointing up

You should see a monitor as an icon and as you hover over it, it should say "Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD"

Click on that and it will bring up a small menu, click on Graphics Properties

To the left of the new window that has popped up (Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel) you will see an option for multiple displays, click on that

You need to be hooked up to your HDTV at this point

Under "Operating Mode" change the Clone Display to either "Extend" or "One Display"

If you choose extend, please skip this step. For those who choose one display, change your primary display to TV. This will re-enable whenever you hook your computer up to an HDTV.

From this point, go back to "General Settings" located on the left of the window pane.

Make sure the "Display" option under "General Settings" says TV and then choose your native output resolution for your HDTV. This option will re-enable every time you hook up your HDTV to the HDMI-out on your laptop.


I personally use "Single Display" because it uses less resources to display on only one screen and if you have a large 1080p file that you are outputting to a TV, it helps to have no stutter or artifacts show in the picture.
