It works with only one USB plugged in on my desktop. Although I don't know if my pc delivers a different amount of power than your Air.

Can't remember, but it does run at its highest rpm for reading on only one USB.

Very nice drive. I got one for $20 I think or maybe $15, but no problems. It was plug and play; still works great.

for anyone who wants to buy on amazon. I had a credit so I am going to suck up the 5 buck difference.

I got this when it was $19 after rebate a few months ago. It works great and I got my rebate back in about 1.5 months.

I have the Blu-Ray reader version of this. It works great, however, I have noticed that for some reason OS X takes a bit longer to initialize any sort of DVD (not Blu-Ray) video, including in VLC or Handbrake than the internal drive. Like, up to 10-30 seconds in some cases. Don't know if it's this particular brand or if that's normal for external drives on OS X.

Normal data comes up without a delay though. Other than that it seems to work great.

Nope, you aren't. I remember I got in on the $10 deal (after $15 MIR) - certainly not FP worthy at this price, even if it was a refurb.

I've had no problems with my drive, great for netbooks, especially when you need to make your own recovery DVDs or install Win 7 without messing with USB sticks.

Just be aware that 2 USB slots should be used to power the drive (this thing doesn't have a wall plug)

If you follow the NewEgg links you'll find that the part number on that deal was different from the part number on this one.


Edit: They are admittedly very similar - we have one of each and both generally work OK, though I think I remember having difficulty using them with a Win2K system (which at least the refurb was allegedly supposed to work with).
