If the file is not tremendously large a concerned computer operator can upload the file to:
http://www.virustotal.com/
This site runs a free virus scan using the top 30 or so most popular virus signature files. Thus, if 29 find it clean and AVG finds it containing something, you can pretty much assume the file is clean.
