Pioneer....didnt they used to make 8-track players? They still in business? Interesting, thumbs down!!

these were posted back in July for $105...guess they didnt move to many of them. Better off going with Monoprice!

I have both of these. Excellent sound, but inefficient so be careful if you have a receiver with castrated amp section.

I have used these and the Monoprice 8" in a few installs. I will say that given the right receiver/amplifier these sound amazing. IMHO, significantly better than the Monoprice Kevlar 8" speakers. At $85 a pair these are a steal.

Yes, and when they did make 8-track players they made some wonderful sounding home AUDIO speakers in the 70's and early 80's.

Good to see that they are at least putting an 8" driver for a woofer, instead of the so common 5.25" midranges that are used in a lot of todays home theater floorstanding speakers.

Are they the same as the ones in car? Why they were $500+ at the very beginning?

I wanted to throw out my 2 cents on the monoprice since many may consider them over these since they are cheaper. I jumped on the 8" 2 way monoprice speakers for labor day sale. I've got them installed and have to say I'm pretty disappointed. They were cheap and better than the TV speakers, but bad enough I'm considering throwing them out and getting these instead and I loath wasting money like that.

I'm actually in the market for a pair of in wall speakers. I was going to buy the monoprice 8" speakers but these are an interesting alternative. The pioneers are $173 shipped on Amazon so this is very good price. The monoprice 3-way 8" speakers are probably a better comparison than the lower end 8" model.

Monoprice:
- ~$99 shipped
- 3-way with a 4" midrange
- Excellent reviews
- Kevlar drivers (silk dome tweeter)
- 90db sensitiviy (will work better with lower powered receiver)
- Go down to 50Hz
- Can handle up to 100watts


Pioneer:
- $85 shipped
- 1.5" titanium dome tweeter
- Marked down from $599 list price (not realistic but still)
- 87db sensitivity (will need more power)
- Go down to 20Hz
- Has some proprietiery technology that may improve sound

Not sure which would be better. I'm leaning towards the monoprice 3-way because of so many positive reviews.
