Heck, we save so much money on JUST my own family's birthday/holiday gifts it makes up for the membership fee.
I went back and calculated how much we saved on shipping in 2010. We placed exactly 120 orders from Amazon.com. The first order was January 7th, the last order was on December 29th.
We saved $1720 on shipping with FREE PRIME 2 day shipping (that's if you just count regular shipping on half the orders!!!@@!#@!)....for an $80 a year membership!

In the end, most people buy things they don't really need so one thing right off the bat I've noticed without prime is saving a lot of money by simply not buying things as much, especially things < $25...
