Take Titanic, English Patient, Dr.Z, Casablanca and many others.
More than cheating the backdrop of this movie which shows Bolshovic revolution and a struggle of a man who is doctor and more than doctor a poet.
The tragic last scene is always my favorite.
Not sure why Omar Sharif didn't win an Oscar for this role, may be because the movie was not about WWII or Omar Sharif was not playing a victimized Jew, else he would have won the award.
