It looks totally awesome!!!
It was unveiled at E3 2006.
What year is it now??? And not even a target release date. That's a horrible sign.
Thanks.
You and me both. That was supposed to be the real FF game, not XIII.
And, then duplicated some of the characters as DLC and become the 3rd member in the party. Even DLC character meets the "real" character, it doesn't matter. There is no logic in the game anyway.
To me, I like FF XIII even it's linear. FF XIII-2 is a broken game since it makes very little sense and mostly replaying recycled monsters and locations.

Obviously Square knows they need to seriously fix Vs XIII if the gameplay is too alike XIII. All they can do is keep Vs XIII quiet and keep milking XIII-2, DLCs and maybe XIII-3 if they have to continue delaying Vs XIII.
Another area Square needs to reduce in Vs XIII is a lot of pre-render cutscenes. Even high grade cutscenes rendering workstations today are more accessible, the models in the cutscenes still require a lot of artists hours. Square should use in-game engine to do all the cutscenes. It may not be top quality but it saves a lot of time in Vs XIII development since making pre-rendered cutscenes are still part of the game development. An example is if Square did choose to use a lot of high grade pre-rendered cutscenes in FF XIII-2, they probably couldn't get the game out in less than a year.
Should I return the one I got at Best Buy for $79.99, which includes a Best Buy exclusive "episode-i novella", or save myself 20 bucks at Gamestop.
i would think you can keep pre-order bonus unless it was packaged inside the game, if it was a code emailed like a lot of stuff just use the code and return it unopened virtual codes ussually dont affect returns in my experience.
**POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
-2 character control with rotating third NPC helper
-No summons
-Monsters don't walk around. Once in awhile monsters spawn and you can choose to attack them or run away (if you don't do either before the 'mog clock' runs out, you'll enter battle)
-Cinematic action - during action sequences be ready to hit a button or move an analog stick in order to perform special moves
Playability differences
Sentinel role feels completely obsolete
game difficulty seems easier
"historia crux" mechanic makes it nice and easy to get to any specific point in the game
Overall I'd say it's pretty enjoyable, but because it's so easy, you'll be done pretty fast.
Also, no summons? WTF?
I was even going to use my $40 google offer on this making it an even sweeter deal.
Wonder if it was a price error or just a really short sale?
Edit: just realized I was confusing newegg with gamestop...doh.
Also, no summons? WTF?
yeah, I miss the summons
