Since there are so many people questioning the power capability of the receiver, I decided to post a couple great links. The first is directly from HK. In case others suspect bias, the second link is a great article speaking about power rating for different platforms.
Q Why are Harman Kardon amplifiers so much more powerful than amplifiers with the same power ratings that are made by other companies?
A A Harman Kardon 50-watt amplifier will sound better, louder and cleaner than most 100-watt amplifiers from other companies. The reason is very simple. We give "true" wattage ratings, and our amplifiers utilize something called High-Current Capability (HCC). Please see the comparison below for further explanation. Other companies (100 watts):

Is 609 around $300? I thought 609 was around 400?
I wanted the Pioneer 1021, but got the Onkyo 609 because the price was right $235 shipped returned from ShopOnkyo in December. I never even looked at this receiver - I just don't at all like the aesthetics of HK.
