Not to be a thread troll, but I just don't understand why anyone wants to go through this trouble. Just download Microsoft Security Essentials. Its free, a quick download, and the most light weight anti-virus I have ever had. I guess you could claim the paid solutions like these have better security, but I'm doubtful of that.

I hope Kapersky Internet Security shows up FAR soon.

While I agree with you about MSE, Norton Ghost is not anti-virus. It is one of the best back-up programs out there. Very helpful in cloning hard drives.

I mailed in a $60. rebate from newegg mid December and have not received it yet. Hoping it is coming soon! Did you receive it this week?

Because a computer that had MSE had a virus while the computers we use just as much, same websites, that had Kaspersky did not get a virus. It's practically the same price. I'll pay 55 cents (ink, paper, stamp, letter) for a better product that takes about 5 minutes of my time and saves myself an hour in the long run from re-installing Windows.

Fair enough, I didn't notice that it was Norton's backup solution (I stopped reading after 'Norton'). Just curious, if I already use the backup stuff built into Win 7 Ultra, then what would this provide over that? Also I see as many 1 star reviews as 5 star, which makes me a little apprehensive about trusting my backup data to it.

I have no empirical data to show if MSE is as powerful as Kaspersky or others, but from my personal experience with it I have never contracted a virus or malware that it could not handle. And I will admit that I visit my fair share of naughty sites . Also my friend brought me his laptop that had an extremely aggressive virus on it. It's the one that pretends to advertise anti-virus. It kept popping up and blocking the task manager but I was able to use a command prompt to kill it long enough and launch IE to download MSE. MSE successfully killed and cleaned it from the computer. Unfortunately the virus had already deleted all his personal data anyways.

Lol...the more likely scenario is that you think everyone is using the same websites...they are not.

I have just received my BF Kaspersky rebates.

I agree that Norton and others are faster but none are more dependable. I keep copies and get all of mine back.

Why not get MSE?

I have found that these allow me to cash in my rewards or credit card rebates.
