We lost a family here a couple of years ago because of CO. Their baby was 18 mos old. They lived in a brand spanking new house.
A CO detector should be placed in every bedroom and hallway, for sure. Thanks for the post and reminder.

Height doesn't seem to matter but I usually see them about a foot off the floor.

Also, the problem with CO is it MIXES with the oxygen in your home. It is NOT heavier and therefore can be found at any height and level.
CO detectors are based on accumulation of CO, not on sudden levels (like smoke would be) in your home.
Ours are on the wall over the doorways in each bedroom, and in the hallway to the bedrooms. We replace the batteries twice a year when we change out the ones in the smoke detectors. (Batteries are cheap with SD.
Please, please... verify the information I've written. I just did a quick read on Wiki and found similar details so I'm thinking hubby is correct. I may be biased, however. Wiki Link [wikipedia.org]

Actually I believe the instructions I got with my First Alert CO detector said it should be placed no more then 3 ft off the ground. Best bet is to check company website and read instructions. Dont believe everthing posted
