According to my firefighter hubby, a CO detector is more important than a fire detector. More people die due to CO poisoning than fire.
We lost a family here a couple of years ago because of CO. Their baby was 18 mos old. They lived in a brand spanking new house.
A CO detector should be placed in every bedroom and hallway, for sure. Thanks for the post and reminder.

Seems like a decent price for both at about 1/3 less than Amazon. Reviews are decent, though both the Lowes (CO detector) and Amazon reviews mention difficulty with batteries.

I thought CO detectors were supposed to be placed in the lower portions of your home (basement), due to the gas being heavier than air. Is a CO detector necessary in every room, especially ones that do not have a CO emitting appliance and are not in the lower portion of ones home?

One of my friend told me that CO detector should be placed at low level (around a feet from the ground) due to it's higher density of the gas.. he may be wrong, guys any expert comments on this.. The price seems to be very decent.

A detector isn't needed in every room but it should be near the bedrooms especially. You should have at least 1 near the sleeping areas on every floor of your home.

Height doesn't seem to matter but I usually see them about a foot off the floor.

Good price. But check to see if your house is wired for interconnected detectors. Mine is so it's a different model that gets power from the wiring too and uses the battery just for backup.

How often do you need to change these? Not the battery, but the actual detector.

According to hubby, CO detectors should be primarily where people hang out, sleep or in pathways to those places.
Also, the problem with CO is it MIXES with the oxygen in your home. It is NOT heavier and therefore can be found at any height and level.
CO detectors are based on accumulation of CO, not on sudden levels (like smoke would be) in your home.
Ours are on the wall over the doorways in each bedroom, and in the hallway to the bedrooms. We replace the batteries twice a year when we change out the ones in the smoke detectors. (Batteries are cheap with SD. )

It will let you know. Constant beeps, buzzing, etc. We've had ours (5 of them) for 3-4 years, and only one went south. Not sure why as the readings weren't high.

Mine are wired into the electric, too. Have you heard how often you need to check yours or even replace the entire unit? I am a little confused on this type as I always had the plain battery type.

If it's 9V, I just check the batteries with a multimeter. They can last a lot, at least a year if not more.

Actually I believe the instructions I got with my First Alert CO detector said it should be placed no more then 3 ft off the ground. Best bet is to check company website and read instructions. Dont believe everthing posted
