CONFIRMED that you do NOT need to enter the code into an amazon account today. It NEVER expires so you can enter it even a year from now. No expiration for code.
IF YOUR GIFT CARD DISAPPEARS FROM YOUR VOUCHERS PAGE, CHECK IT AGAIN AFTER 45-60 MINUTES, or may be 3 hours or 6 hours or tomorrow. YOUR ORDER HAS NOT BEEN CANCELED, IT WILL COME BACK.
Don't worry if you don't get a confirm right away. The following message appeared when mine went through:

Just a heads up, the voucher page says the promotional value expires 03/20/12, so you might want to 'redeem' it by adding the full $10 GC balance to your Amazon.com account (per the instructions on the AmazonLocal site) before the end of the day, otherwise it might turn into a $5 gift card. - Was an error from early hours of deal. It is now removed. Expiration date now says "Does not expire"
I just checked the description of the GC; also I called customer service # for Amazon local (the agent said they work for Amazon local + Amazon). They confirmed that by just placing the order the GC value will not diminish. The Amazon local site says:
FYI - if purchasing multiple GC's under multiple accounts, sign out of the multiple amazon local accounts prior to signing into your amazon account and redeeming your GC. This trick should allow you to redeem multiple GC's to the same account though its not recommended that you take advantage of the system as you might get caught. You have been warned.

If your bank offers 'Virtual Credit Card' (VCC) numbers then that usually works as they give you a temporary and different card number to use (with a $ limit set by you) and you can generally setup as many of those as you like.
