Great fit to the Take 5s.
Considering this combo with the 10" sub for my computer desk / den. The the Micro would fit better on the desk, but I could squeeze the classics in if there is a sound quality advantage.
I have a digital amplifier which will power either setup well.
My old Klipsch Promedia 5.1 has served me well, but the amplifier has started to make noise, so I am looking for a high quality replacement.

Personally I'd go for the Def Techs even though they were $50 cheaper last week.

I like the 10" SUB of the Energy set for lower frequency response. One thing I will miss about my old Klipsch Promedia setup is that they were made to be on a desk and came with (appropriate) angled stands to project themselves up to the user. Although the high end computer speaker business has all but disappeared, it is unfortunate that such stands are not offered for the above products for this alternative use.
Does anyone have any experience with the Energy Veritas mini's? How do they compare to the Take Classics?

I don't think these speakers have much in the low end so a subwoofer is going to be a requirement. Not really a con, but don't expect to plug these things in and have a full-range sound.
CNET also touts these as the best budget 5.1 system they've ever tested other than the Pioneer SP-PK21BS, but those suckers are MASSIVE.

I think one can get by with a $80 - $100 sub with OP's Take 5 option (Dayton, Monoprice). Going too large on the sub will leave a gap in the mid bass department. These small HTIB speakers, although some of the best offered, still rely on small 3" drivers for voice and mid-bass. Any type of theatrical movie or concert Blu ray will completely miss out on the bass normally produced by a 5.25 to 6.5" driver, and if you cross over your subwoofer incorrectly, you make things worse.
There's always a price to pay when going this small. But most reviews are very good on this system. Make them better and get the right sub. I think 10" is too big for these.
