I have seen to many of these light duty ladders fail while being used and personally stick to the IAA or IA rated ones. Just my experience and opinion.


The ladder type is the designation that identifies the “maximum intended load” (working load) of the ladder. Ladder types are as follows:

Extra Heavy Duty IAA Maximum intended load 375lbs
Extra Heavy Duty IA Maximum intended load 300lbs
Heavy Duty I Maximum intended load 250lbs
Medium Duty II Maximum intended load 225lbs
light Duty III Maximum intended load 200lbs

in your observations of failure, was the rated weight limit exceeded?

Aluminum ladders are strong and light but they shouldn't be used on any electrical project, with power cords or outdoors near overhead power lines because they conduct electricity.

Fiberglass ladders are more expensive (except on BF at Lowe's ) but intrinsically safe and a better option for most people.

Are you trying to ask if this person has a lot of extra tonage?

We checked out the Green 6' at HD and ended up putting a bit more to it and bumped up to the Blue, much sturdier.
