Isn't this a better deal spec wise than the Dell deal we've seen recently? I guess people dislike HP.

With the 35% off coupon, I would've been all over this last week (before I decided to have my LCD screen replaced on one of my older laptops). Oh well. Bad timing for me, but this is a great deal. Based on one of my configurations (only change was steel gray and bluetooth), total came out to $773.49 (Although, I don't know if HP charges tax for CA...didn't go that far).

-EDIT- Just noticed that there's an area to add zipcode and since HP does charge tax, it's still a good deal...not "great", but still good $847.17 would've still been in my price range, had I decided to not repair my old laptop.

New egg has pre built dv6 with very similar specs with i5 for 719.99, free ship and no tax for many. It has a 1080p screen, same video card, so gaming performance is probably identical if not better with the higher clocked dual core.

Edit: looks like HP got rid of the sku, probably in prep for the ivy bridge refresh. I was looking at the pre built one for about 2 months for a price drop and they just recently took it down.

No you could probably build a comparable desktop with a 20" TN monitor for about $650.

I only managed to get a cpu build for $700 with intel core i5 - 2500k sandy bridge 3.3ghz (3.7ghz turbo boost lga 1155 9w quad core desktop processor intel hd graphics 3000 with ASUS ENGTX560 DCII OC/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card, ENGTX560 DCII OC/2DI/1GD5 but i7 cost too much

Too bad it's an HP. I'll never, ever buy an HP laptop ever again. Far too high a failure rate after the 1 year warranty window. If anyone does buy an HP laptop, please make sure you purchase an extended warranty of some kind with it, preferably through Square Trade. HP simply makes junk. I speak from personal experience.
