True, but I make it a point to plug Hasbro Lazer Tag technology whenever I get the chance. Hate to see Hasbro stop production of a line like the Phoenix LTX and it's MIA rapidfire attachment.

These sound like a blast, but the need for a laptop to play (seriously?!?) and the fact that these are discontinued is kind of a deal breaker for me. I get the feeling that a better version (possibly using an iPhone app instead of laptop) will be just around the corner and these will be obsolete and unsupported. Unless of course, some kind of open source scene springs up around these. In that case, these would be much more interesting...

I also like the Hasbro ones. They have been rebranded under Nerf. Sets are available at Amazon or ToysRus for $60 and they work great. I gave a couple sets to my nephews and we had a blast last Christmas. No need for vest or a PC, super easy to use and they work great.

Would this be appropriate for a 12 or 13 year old to play with? Also, do they need the med packs and all the bases to play or would I be able to sell part of the set? I'm thinking about this for a birthday gift for a 12 soon to be 13 year old

Ok i'm in for two. Hopefully these will work better than the lazertags. ANd I don't care about the laptop. I saw a review and they acutally used a desktop for inside a house and it worked ok, just slightly reduced the range.

I kinda view the laptop control scheme as a positive, as it keeps score and keeps track of who shot who and how many times and also ends the game at the appropriate time. nice features if you ask me. also the range sounds pretty damn good to me, a 300 meter radius around the laptop and about 75 yards range with the guns. I'm reluctantly pulling the trigger...

The person who listed 10 of these on ebay for $120 apiece has already sold 2. dumb if you ask me, as he is only netting $35 on these plus he is shipping them free, plus he is losing ebay fees, plus he is losing paypal fees. which means he is probably clearing less than 20 bucks per item when its all said and done. kinda sucks cause he will drive the ebay resale value way down. some of the medpacks alone have been selling for $200-$300 over the last few weeks
