Actually, it turns out that by NOT plugging them in all the way and leaving out a couple of millimeters, the problems disappeared. I'll have to rig a plastic ring to take up that space.

Now that they're working, I have no issues. They have a descent soundstage for being closed headphones. I hope the rubbery smell will dissipate. Nice comfortable fit. Cord length could be longer... Sound quality's nowhere near the Senn HD598s but they cost 1/8th the price. A nice beater pair of cans.

Thanks to everyone who posted their personal experiences with these. It's good to know other's opinions, and it will certainly be useful if this set of cans comes up on sale again.

I got mine yesterday and for the record, I have an Audio Technica ATM-50. Yes, the Audio Technica is more "refined", but these really aren't that bad at all. I don't hear the harshness or boominess that some have said about these. They have decent bass, decent trebles, but they're perhaps missing a little midrange. I'm going to break them in and see if they sound even better. Overall, I do not feel I've been short changed at all.

I've noticed if you listen to low quality recordings they sound like crap- then again, so do most decent headphones or iem's.

After airing them out for a few days, I finally got around to listening to them. I can tell right off the bat that the sound on these are mediocre. The sound is hollow and the bass is just not there. Better than some of the cheaper headphones I have used, but not good either. Sound quality is close to that of the Sennheiser HD 201's and they cost half as much. They also feel cheap and loose. When I wear them, I feel as though they are going to slip off any second. If people are comparing these to beats by dr.dre, then the beats must suck badly. Honestly the retail price for these should be $30-$40, including the box. Overall, I would give these things 2 or 3 stars out of 5. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

PS The $10 Sennheiser HD 203 refurb's are much better.

Just out of curiosity, what device were you using the headphones with? I think they have some impressive bass response (especially at higher volumes) and are extremely easy to drive. The mids are really poor, though, especially if you're coming from a high-end set of headphones. Tried them out against a pair of Beats Solo's, and as muffled as the mids are on the BigR's, they're still better than the Solo's. Material quality is the worst aspect of these headphones though!

Wow the Beats must really suck then. Just a fashion statement i guess. Anyways to answer your question, I used my desktop computer to play it and I compared it to the sennheiser hd 201, 202 and 203. The BiGr audio ones were only a little better than the 201's. And im also using sound blaster titanium sound card. Maybe you have an amp or a receiver or something that makes it sound nice.

You got it. The Beats really are just a fashion statement and nothing more. I used my Zune, Galaxy S II and a SoundBlaster X-Fi GO! to test mine out. I have a headphone amp, but it doesn't really make a difference with these headphones. The mids are so muffled that any additional clarity an amp would add gets lost anyway.
