As many have said, yes, it's a glorified pedometer. No GPS, so no tracking.

What they're really "selling" versus a standard pedometer is the nifty interface and automatic syncing/storing of data in a sleeker, no-this-thing-on-my-belt-isn't-a-fat-person-meter package. It's your call, really, on whether that's worth the premium over a very basic pedometer, which can provide much of the same information. To many, it's worth it, but I can respect of others find it less useful. I'll still be using Endomondo on my phone to actually track my daily training runs. The government can track me all they want, I'd be flattered.

Does this track you if you are biking somewhere? Or is it only for walking joggin

No, I just created an account and entered my membership number during registration, then searched for the Fitbit again after doing so. I'm assuming there's another place to add your membership info if you already have an account without that?

It will not. This does not have GPS. Use Endomondo for that. Free for cellphones, and far better than any other GPS tracking devices I've used (minus the issue of battery life and added heft, but you can blame your phone for that).

How does it track distance without GPS?

Don't know anything about the Fitbit, but the bodybugg changed my life. 60lbs gone in 30 weeks. I am loving life. 1.6 lbs until my goal weight is achieved.

Why not use your GPS enabled smartphone with a good fitness app? It would be more accurate and cheaper. What am I missing here? Pulse monitor?

Because once you're indoors or otherwise blocked from a good GPS signal, that smartphone goes dumb. Also the issue of battery life, heft, poor "step tracking" as far as I can tell in most apps, etc. As I've said, Endomondo is still my go-to when it comes to actually tracking a run. But this is another level of information that may not necessarily be helpful for all, but at least a "good to know".

Why opt for a car with a fuel usage estimate? The most accurate number is to see how much you fill up at the pump and compare against your trip meter. Doesn't make the in-the-car estimate of fuel-efficiency any less useful.

It isn't for everybody, but plenty of people would pay a few bucks for the convenience.

Question: can two people share one of these?

Specifically, if two people work out at different times can they use one fitbit and apply the data to different profiles or does the software/unit sort of pair a fitbit to only one profile? Also, woud this require having the software on two PCs and swapping the base unit or is it as easy as flipping to a different profile?
