Here are some helpful links for those interested in rooting.
BACK UP YOUR NST BEFORE DOING ANY ROOTING - http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1142983
If you fail to do this extremely simple step you may end up regretting it deeply, so just do it.
Here are two self rooting packs. Which one you end up choosing is up to you but only install one of them; read the threads and use your own judgement which one you want. If you end up not liking the package you installed then simply follow the restore directions in the Back Up link and reroot with the other pack or try to do the manual root. You'll also need a Micro SD card(Suggested speed of Class 6 and up) and an SD card reader that isn't your NST. Also be sure to read and understand the entire instructions before starting.
Minimal Touch - http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1346748
Touch Nooter - http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1343143
Obviously, if you don't feel 100% confident with the rooting process then just don't root especially if you're on Linux or Mac OSX and don't have much experience with the terminal/command line because some of the commands involved could end up wiping your hard drive if you aren't paying attention to which drive you're flashing the images too. And just one more time, BACK UP YOUR STOCK NST BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

why, its 2GB, thats a TON of books. PLUS it has a micro SD slot. Buy a cheap card and get as many gigs as you want. Its much cheaper to that than buy it built into any electronic device. I have this and its amazing. Even better than the 1st nook and has HUGE improvements.
Been waiting for this deal to pop up again. Got one at $65 last go-around. Rooted it so that I access my kindle books directly on the device and love it.

I think I'll hold out for the new NST with built in backlight. I'll wait til prices drop or I can pick up a refurb since my current NST is still working great.
But thumbs up on this deal, it's a great price.
Thanks
On a side note, I wonder if I could mod my wife's NST to add the same sort of light to hers.
