Is it just this particular model that is extra thick? I don't mind it being thicker than an edge-lit LED.

It appears that this is a stripped down value model with 2 HDMI. I'm just wondering if all the TVs in the 2012 E series are thick like this, which would make perfect sense.

Samsung TVs have been plagued by flashlighting and uneven backlighting, and the thicker TV allows for their new LEDs to not be edge-lit, although one review mentioend uneven backlighting.

One of Amazon's reviews said they got it from Best Buy. I've read reviews before that the stripped down models typically aren't as reliable.

Is this tv better than sony KDL55BX520? Can anyone compare (other than size and lcd vs led diff) ? Recently purchased the sony for $900 + tax @ walmart.

Depends on your tastes. I personally prefer Samsung TV's to Sony mostly because Sony's 120Hz (or 240Hz, depending on the model) processing doesn't allow you to separate the two functions of the video processing: anti-judder and anti-blur. You can look up more information on google and other sources, but anti-judder makes the picture look like soap opera, they call it the "soap opera effect". I personally can't stand it. On my Samsung, I've turned the anti-judder feature off completely, but left the anti-blur function turned on.

Good price. I really like the thin bezel on the 7000 and up models. It appears this one is thicker on the edges.

Trying to talk my mother into buying this, I don't move out till fall.

Ok thanks for your input. I also like samsumg better. Will need to decide now if i want 50" instead of 55". Also dont like the no return/exchange policy from beach camera on ebay.
