"$15-30" is a lot for an AC in the $100 range. it's all about value, IMO.

Here's the way I see it: If this was a $1000 TV, then an extra $30 would be no big deal. But an extra $30 over an $85 AC is a 35% increase in price!

But like I said, to each their own, I hunted down this model exactly because of a good experience with it. And it was just a nice find to see it was on sale plus a coupon to make it slick. It's a good little unit; it lasted all summer and then some last year without any issues (May-August). Then it sat in the storage unit until last May when I stuck it back in the window. No issues whatsoever, looking to get it a brother.

Maybe I was just lucky though or perhaps I know what I'm getting when I buy a tiny $85 air conditioner....

I bought this unit for the world's smallest window in my old apartment...it fit into a 19" opening. Not sure what the minimum width refers to, maybe it factors in using the extendable side flaps (which you may not need / be able to fit). $85 shipped is an awesome deal, mine is going on 6-7 years and still going strong.

You can see that it has optional wings for large windows. I bet that's the difference in size.

I bought a Haier back in my college days and beleve it or not, it lasted at least 6 years and then sold it, it was a small unit like this, had an electronic display that was temperamental but luckily I had remotes to use and the coils looked like crap, but it did cool well and was quiet. I also had a maytag in the other bedroom that that one was louder but seemed like it was made a whole lot better but I also paid more for it.

Those reviews to me seem overall good. Only complaint is 'noisy', honestly all window ac units are noisy. That being said, also found this gem in one of the 1 star reviews:

I use a humidifier when I'm running a AC unit to add a little moisture to the room, mainly for respiratory reasons. The two unit do sit clearly across the room from one another. Why this would be a problem I have no idea...

Running it at 60 outside I don't get though... Open a window or something...

I don't really care about "defending my deal", but I do want to defend this product.

I can personally say I have this unit and it's very good. It's not even that noisy. Now I wouldn't call it "Ultra Quiet" like the instruction manual says it is, but it's not that loud. Mine is in my bedroom and it doesn't keep me awake.

I haven't had any issues whatsoever with it, as long as you install correctly and remember to tilt it down a couple degrees so water can drip out the window (that's why it's a WINDOW unit after all) then there should be no problems. It's a great cheapo air conditioner; I can't really say anything more.
