Well this Panasonic isn't one of them! You'll need an old "cord-ed" phone, and even then, the phone lines are down just as often as the power lines.

True about this model, but you don't need an "old" corded phone - there are plenty on the market now that combine a cordless handset (for convenience) with a corded handset (for just the reason I mentioned).

And neither of us has cited data, but my personal experience is the infrastructure of the power companies fails much more often than the phone companies. My contacts in the Midwest are always complaining about their power being out after the latest storm - sweating in darkened rooms while talking to me on their landline phones.

I ordered three so I could have four handsets charging and two extra handsets for sixty bucks. Separate orders thanks to the warning from someone above who had an order for 2 canceled. Got confirmation on all three orders. I'll try them out, if they are worth the money keep them, otherwise return them. I'm sure I could have saved $20 or more if I waited but my current land line phones that I use in my home office every day are dying.

I can confirm there's only one handset included.....

I got one in a store for 19.99 even though the website didn't show that it was available there. The next available store for me wad about 100 miles.

Crap. The specs on the page imply the handset quantity is 2. And it is impossible to cancel an order with sears and have a refund come through, so I'm going to have to go pick them up and return them. Sigh.

Why is it impossible to cancel and get a refund?

I know you should be able to do it but my experience is the credit never comes through and you have to spend hours arguing with them.

I went there, picked them up, confirmed there is definitely only one handset, walked to the nearest register, and returned them.

The costco set sounds sweet but not worth the 2 hour round trip.

This is very much a YMMV. There are three of these phones at my local Sears, but even using different browsers, putting it in my cart and taking the checkout process all the way to the end (i.e. one more click and I would be placing the order), phone shows up as $56 plus change. Even went by the store and there it rings up as $47 plus tax.
