My sonicare just broke today after 5 years of everyday use.

After having a sonicare for the last 5 years, I always spend the extra $ and get the most expensive one. When it comes to my teath, the extra $100 I spend on a toothbrush once every 5 years well makes up for the fact that I have never had a cavity or any major work done on my teeth. Splurge a little and get the flexcare+. I now can't live without it.

^^^THIS! If there's one product I've ever found that pays for itself over and over and over, it's a Sonicare toothbrush. Saves me SO MUCH MONEY at the dentist (not to mention I now only have to go in once every two years for a cleaning vs. once every six months before!)

do the extra modes from the flexcare+ make that much of a difference versus the healthy whites?

My dentist is one of the top dentists in the country and spends about 50% of his time speaking at conventions and working with various dental-related companies and he won't let me use anything other than a Sonicare. My father had a Sonicare for years and has recently switched to the Oral-B is says it's fine, but I tried it and just don't feel that the brush has enough power to really break apart the plaque....

I just splurged and bought the DiamondClean off of Amazon for $170~ shipped... the $30-$50 difference is a joke compared to how much you would pay for a cavity, root canal, cleaning, etc...

Honestly, I only use the normal mode, which breaks apart a 2 minute cycle into 4 30-second phases. My understanding is that the CSRs at Phillips recommend the FlexCare+ and that the only difference between it and the DiamondClean are the heads (which are interchangable between models btw) and the number of Modes.... With regards to the Healthy White, I do believe that the motor is weaker then the FlexCare+/DiamondClean. Not sure though. I just spoke with a CSR from Phillips and he steered me away from the lower end models due to the fact that the FlexCare+/DiamondClean models are just so much better.... spend the extra $, you won't be sorry.

I'm coming from an entry level Essence (which has been FANTASTIC minus the gross mold issues caused by the bulky brush heads) so I'm sure this Healthy White will be juuust fine. I too bought an Oral-B, but after getting it delivered I looked at the size of the heads and I just can't imagine it'll clean the same as my Sonicare heads (Oral-B heads are so dinky) so I decided to sell the Oral-B and go with what I'm used to and what I know for sure works.
