40" Sceptre 1080p LCD HDTV (X408BV-FHD) $280 + Free shipping

Same price at Walmart [walmart.com](plus tax) but free returns. Pretty sure 409 model is same as 408 model.

Anyone can vouch for this tv? I am looking for 40-42 inch tv just to watch store cameras via HDMI...My only requirement is it has to last considerably longer...I am debating between this one and seiki here..

This TV potentially works for my specific application, which requires that it fit into a space only 37" wide.

The Sceptre has horrible sound. I can personally attest to it. But I hooked mine up to a Vizio soundbar, so I don't really care.

I purchased the 42 inch version of this and am completely satisfied with the tv. There are quite a bit of reviews over at the walmart website.

What's the difference between the X408/409 and the X405? The latter looks like it has many more reviews. Is it the older model?

I bought the 40" X405BV-FHD3 from Walmart. A few days later it would not turn on. No red or blue power lights on the TV. Took it back to Walmart.

Some reviews that were negative said the TV broke after a few years and they gave it a one star review. If this TV lasted 2 - 3 years for $300 it is definately worth it and should be given 5 stars just for that.

But yeah, mine died a few days after using it.

I'm in college, so I don't really plan on upgrading my tv for roughly three years or so. The biggest gap in price in these size TVs seems to be from 42" to 46", so I chose to go as big as I was willing to pay (400 or under) to last me for the next few years.

I ordered mine from Newegg for $360 because they didn't charge for shipping like Walmart did. However, the television was shipped in its product box only, which did arrive with a fist-sized hole in it, but the tv was fine. My one gripe was that out of the box, the manual buttons on the side were unresponsive. I contacted customer service and they said I could either ship it back to them and receive a new set (they cover shipping) or I could take the back panel off and check to see if the wire had come out (they explicitly stated it would not void the warranty). I opted for the latter and discovered that exactly that had happened. I plugged the wire set back in, but on the back panel, and its been working ever since.

My owner's manual that came in the box for the 408 from Newegg lists itself as the manual for the 409. FYI The picture on this TV is amazing for $280 shipped. The sound is crappy like most TVs, but it's there and functional.

i would spend a little more and get a LG or samsung 43" plasma for around $400.
better picture bar none.

just my opinion though
