I went to a Home Depot store that had these in stock yesterday (before they were sold out online). I had called Home Depot .com prior just to confirm that they could price match. I got to the store and the manager outright refused to pricematch it because A) We don't compete against ourself (total BS) and B) She couldn't pricematch below cost.

While I was in the store, I called Home Depot . Com because I was pissed they had me drive 30 minutes just to be told that they don't pricematch online. The rep on the phone said that the store manager had to honor the price. So the manager then took my number down and said her manager would call me on Monday but that she couldn't do anything.

Even if they honor the price on Monday, now I have to spend another hour driving to pick it up. And since then it's sold out online. What a waste of time! I only drove to the store because I wanted to see the chairs on display. Turned out this home depot had 10 in stock and the display was still in the box, never unpacked. No wonder they never sold these chairs and now they are on clearance!

but next time , be sure and check with the store manager if they will match the .com price....not with the .com CSR if the store will match the .com price.

i do believe that it is correct that "We don't compete against ourself". makes sense to me.
a lot of times .com is a different entity that the brick and mortar

The only reason I called it total BS is because the Home Depot . com rep told me it was and that they had to honor the price in the store. But apparently if it's below cost then the Manager on duty doesn't want their name on the loss. But she had no problem wasting my time instead.

Why didn't you buy online at $57 and pick up in store if it was in stock? Never had a problem. I saw that option when I bought online, but my local store didn't have any.

the CSR cannot enforce anything that the manager will do in the store

next time confirm with the manager what the manager can and cannot do

do no ask the manaage to do what the CSR rep said that the manager will do

When you change it to pickup in store the price changes to $129. That's why I called Home Depot.com and asked how to get the online price. They told me to print it out and bring it to the store no problem. Since I wanted to see the chair on display first it seemed like a win-win situation. Turned out the chair wasn't even on display and they wouldn't pricematch.

This is true and good advice. But at the same time, if you double checked and second guessed everything in life you would go crazy.

I've had horrible experience with Home Depot managers. They tell you one thing and then the Manager is having a bad day and won't honor it. I recently tried to return a ceiling fan that cost $99.80 without a receipt and was told that they don't accept any returns over $99.00 without a receipt. The manager told me this herself. I went to a different store and returned it no hassle. Some managers are just there to cause problems and hassle the customer.

many companies will have policies in force, but still leave many descisions up to managers discresion.

i would have simply asked the store manager if they will do "xyxz"...if yes, then i get the name of the person that told me such....


in the end, may not make much difference, but at least u have a leg up..versus the actual course of action u took...

Well, it all worked out for the best! I tried a different Home Depot and found similar chairs for $11 each on clearance. The model number and product name don't even come up on the web site any more. So I'm guessing they were discontinued years ago.

They also had a table that goes with it for $31, originally $39.

It was one of the original Home Depot's in Las Vegas, not one of the newer built ones. The chairs were also hidden out back in the landscaping department instead of up front by the new stuff when you first walk in. So if anyone else missed out on this deal, don't forget to check that area for clearance items!

Same thing happened to me, next time use chrome incognito window. I was getting the same price as you did but i managed to ordered two chairs online.
