shoot. just got my cooler master hyper 212+ and was thinking about putting another 120 (not that i need it as it brought down my temps hard and 11hours on prime only maxed it at 56c with their stock paste) but after reading reviews how loud these are i might step away from this deal.

u talking about the 80 or the 120 (top or side) and which setting? my top fan is bloody loud cause of vibrations although i also think the top is larger than the side fan (back where the i/o ports are)

Just get another blademaster (the fan that came stock with the Hyper 212+). I'm running two using a 4-pin Y-cable, and it is very quiet.


To combat loud fans (Sickleflows, in this case), there are several options.

1. Fan Controller [newegg.com] or even 5.25 drive controller if you want to spend the extra money to make all your fans quiet.
2. 7V fan mod [overclockers.com]. All you need is a paperclip and a 3-pin to molex adapter (which comes with the Sickleflow)
3. Connect the fan to your motherboard and regulate the voltage from there. (number of 3-pin fan headers on the motherboad usually depends on the quality/price of the board you bought)
4. Wire a resistor in. Soldering and/or crimping required.

Considering this because my current fan that I've been using for a decade is a bit noisier than I'd like. How are these for noise? Also these claim 69 CFM which seems a bit sketchy from a cooling perspective. Isn't that far too low for a 120mm case fan? That's just over a third of what my current fan is doing. Wouldn't a case be designed around having its 120mm fan slots push more air than this?

It's all marketing bogus. There are only a VERY few companies today that have an honest CFM/dBA rating.

Edit: Misread what you were saying. The fans are actually probably around 60-70 CFM max. That is actually pretty decent for 120mm fans these days. For higher CFM (but obviously higher dBA along with it) there are Scythe Ultra Kaze's, Delta's, and Panaflows.

dba is my major concern with fans even with lower CFM imo even if they say 21dbs its at certain footage and i always feel these "lab" numbers are much lower than real world test./ then again i dont have a db reader so i may be full of it

While I have had good luck with coolermaster stuff, when I just bought a new blue 120mm fan two weeks ago, I bought this one because it had a better rating. No rebate, so you're paying full cost, but I can tell you that with it in it's quiet (for a big fan) and BRIGHT as heck.
