amazon has Crucial m4 128G SSD at $89. No tax in most states.

might be driver issue if you window 7 disk/installation unit doesn't have the proper driver, it won't detect the SATA drive, this was the problem in XP that people had to slip stream the driver in the disk, for window 7 the problem might occur if your hardware is too new for the old window 7 to detect.
and even if you install in IDE, you still can config your registry for it to take AHCI... there's plenty of guides to do that on google.
