Smashburger fries are stringy-thin and feature an oil-and-herb dressing. Five Guys fries are more plentiful and potato-y. (I am partial to their cajun fries.) Smashburger has onion strings (with a creamy dipping sauce that is oh-so-salty); Five Guys, no onion strings or rings.

Watch out for the Smashburger chicken sandwiches. The chicken is cut so thin, it's not even worth having unless you double it (for an additional $2).

Smashburger has a more family-oriented ambiance; its employees are trained in being gung-ho friendly. Five Guys people are more down-to-business. Smashburger brings your platter to you (you post your order number at your table, much like Cosi). Five Guys calls your number and you go to the counter.

When there's no Five Guys or Fuddrucker's around, Smashburger's just okay.

Better bun, comparable toppings, but with a gourmet flair (and a couple bucks extra as a result). The chicken sandwiches are very good, but the chicken is indeed pounded very thin. Worth it with this coupon... I would pass at regular prices.

Time for a San Diego burger

I didn't like Smashburger. $20 for 2 small sandwiches and 2 sides, no drinks. And I live in Denver where Smashburger was founded. Maybe they just got complacent and franchises elsewhere are better. I love the 5Guys here though. And their soda fountain with a zillion varieties is icing on the cake

I might go back with this coupon though.

In Michigan, we don't have In n' Out, Shake Shack, or Five Guys (nor even a Chik Fil A) within reasonable driving distance. So the new Smashburgers are a great competition to the entrenched, if decent, regional chains like Mr. Burger and Culver's.

For the price, Smashburgers aren't as satisfying as a double bacon deluxe Butterburger at Culver's. But they certainly beat out sit down places like Red Robin. Order a breakfast smashburger, if you want a great value (fried egg & bacon, should be for a lower price than ordering separately).

Their Cobb Salad is really good. I have a shake shack .5 miles away from me so when I want a burger, I go there. But, I certainly see more smashburger bags in people's hands during the lunch hour than five guys, and the five guys is directly across the street from me.

I like Red Robin a lot more than Smashburger, and they aren't much more expensive either.

5 bucks for 2 burgers, cheap date with the wife

I was stuck out of town for a week so I ate at one. Girl asked how it was. I said, "You want the truth?" They gave me a coupon for a free one. Went back a few days later and got chicken. Just as horrible. Food in a metal basket? Even prisoners get plates! Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible. Five Guys is pretty bad as well.
