It'll improve boot times and disk access times for anything you use often. So basically, if you're playing game XYZ regularly everytime you use that computer, it'll get cached to the SSD portion. Move along to another game and it'll start caching by the 2nd time you access it. For a laptop, these are a no brainer if you don't have a mSata port or second drive bay.

Protip: Instead of bitching on forums about drives failing why don't you do yourself a favor and keep your system image and data backed up.

Maybe that's standard in this industry, but after you experience it first-hand, you lose complete faith in a company.
SSDs are cheap enough now that you should just get a 256GB and forget about it.
checked prices for regular 500gb 7200 rpm HDDs with no ssd cache lately? (hint- they cost the same or more)
at $70 shipped this is a no brainer unless you hate seagate drives or need something larger
