If this card can unlock to a 6970 this will be frontpage. My personal experience with xfx 6950s has not been good, bit i never tried to unlock a double d 6950. Anyone know or have experience?

Edit: Searching the reviews on newegg shows that this card cannot be unlocked. A shame. Deal still deserves a thumbs up but not front page material imho.

Basically all of the newer 6950's CANNOT be unlocked to 6970. Not like it made much of a difference anyway. But still, a very powerful card.

I don't know what you're talking about - a 6970 is a good 15% faster than a 6950 in games and in folding. If you can get a 15% gain for free, thats a pretty good deal!

yes it is indeed amazing, more than $10 cheaper than the latest FP deal, and it is a good card. seems like a no-brainer if your computer can handle it and you are looking for such a card.

I own video cards by both companies, so I'm not a fanboy for either. The real shame is I remember when XFX was one of the names people looked for indicating warranty/quality/customer service (not the best, but nothing to sneer at), and Sapphire was this new company that people were uncertain about. That was not that long ago, and now your post reflects the truth. It's a sad when a good company slowly whimpers to death...

You are not getting a 6970, you are just getting a few shaders changed. You would get around 2-3fps boost. Not as much as you think.

Sorry no. An unlocked 6970 can overclock to 930 / 1500 and yes the extra shaders make a huge difference, not 2 to 3 fps.

Source: I own an unlocked MSI 6950 reference card. The difference in fps is significant (around 15% as per my first post).
