this test [tomshardware.com] shows why sandforce is crap, the 2nd sandforce in this test is a Intel 520 60GB, it lies to all benchmark software when there's lots empty space.

Reply: This site clearly states that the lower performance is only on 60 GB drives and not on the higher capacity drives like this deal of 240 GB.
This can also be confirmed on Intel's web site. For example:

My personal experience of this drive in 180 GB is superb and quite frankly, out of the world.

OMG, PINCH ME, I had to read this a couple times to make sure I wasn't reading this wrong, a Intel 240gb SSD for $139.99 After coupon for new customers, which I am because I have never bought from buy.com before, ohhhhh man, I expected these prices for Black Friday on a Samsung 830 256gb but not an Intel!

Crap now I gotta think, this Intel 330 series now for $149.99 or wait for Samsung 830 black friday deal which im estimating to hit at least $150 for 256gb. what do you guys think Big Grin

Amazing how the prices are dropping, right? This is the best Sandforce controller drive, but the con being Sandforce is that it uses lot power on idle (0.85W [anandtech.com]) compared to others such as Samsung (in-house chip, 0.38W) or Crucial/Plextor (Marvel chip 0.66W) which I think is important for laptops. If it was 7mm height, I would have still bought this.

Edit: I didn't know the 4K random read/write IOPS are pretty low compared to other Sandforce drives. Hmm....

Well for me its not bad as its for a desktop, Its a 3 year old build and I finally got in the mood for upgrading, recently bought a new mobo,going to buy a new cpu and an ssd, because I am using a mechanical hdd and since SSDs finally dropped to reasonable budget prices this is why I am looking for one,and I did not know about the power difference between them,but this doesnt affect me because its for a desktop Big Grin

I have the 180gb model and it is a great drive. I had the Samsung 830 and Intel 520 models and this one was within 5% of their speeds.

It uses sandforce but according to people they are durable and good, what sucks is their prices are high, and there were rumors on an august price cut for all intel SSDs but i doubt this is it

Sandforce is fine now, this isn't 2010. My 330 180gb runs like a dream, and it's nice having access to the Intel SSD toolbox. I would bite on this if I really needed the room but I'm pretty good on keeping data on an HDD so my SSD is always pretty empty.
